With the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) well and truly underway, the matches come thick and fast, and the race for the four precious playoff spots is also tightening with sides from the bottom half of the table causing problems for those already in the four spots. It will be a similar story in match 29 when the Punjab Kings (PBKS) take on the Delhi Capitals (DC). Fans will expect DC to win the game but PBKS has already beaten two title contenders, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI). The Capitals, however, have been on a tear themselves as they ride high on confidence after a comfortable victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The two sets of players will look to do everything in their power to help their team win and several of the players are in a good run of form. Individual player battles, therefore, will be something to look out for when PBKS faces DC. Here are the five key player battles to watch out for.

KL RAHUL VS KAGISO RABADA

The Marquee battle. The best batter in PBKS against DC’s best bowler. The two have been in good form this season, especially the PBKS skipper who scored an unbeaten 91 in his franchise’s previous game against RCB. Rabada also rarely has a bad game and will look to oust Rahul as soon as possible.

CHRIS GAYLE VS AVESH KHAN

The Universe Boss proved against RCB exactly how dangerous he can truly be as he played a quickfire cameo of 16 runs off 24 deliveries. Facing Avesh Khan might not seem like a daunting task for a man of Gayle’s caliber but Avesh has shown just what he is capable of throughout the season, regularly picking up wickets for DC.

HARPREET BRAR VS PRITHVI SHAW

The two men stole the show in their respective previous matches. Shaw scored a tantalizing knock of 81 against the Knight Riders while Brar sent the likes of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers packing. It would be interesting to see which one of the two can keep their impressive form going and how they handle each other.

RAVI BISHNOI VS SHIKHAR DHAWAN

Shikhar has been at the absolute top o his game since the season began, and so has Ravi Bishnoi since he played his first game for PBKS. Shikhar’s experience and all-round batting ability makes him a dangerous opponent, but PBKS have a gem of a bowler and fielder in Bishnoi who can outsmart any batter on any given day.

MOHAMMED SHAMI VS RISHABH PANT

The DC skipper might not have gotten long to bat in their previous match, but what he has is a rich vein of form. Pant’s explosive batting has been a boon for DC so far in the season. However, against a wily veteran like Shami, Pant would have tyo have all his wits about him.
