Nicholas Pooran’s horror run in IPL 2021 has continued after he was run-out for yet another duck in Punjab Kings’ game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the first ball of the eighth over, Chris Gayle tapped a full ball to cover and set off for a quick single. Pooran responded but David Warner managed to get quickly to the ball. He fired a throw at the striker’s end and Pooran was run-out without facing a ball. Punjab Kings, who had chosen to bat, were in deep trouble against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The latest run-out continues a miserable period for the West Indies left-hander. In four matches so far, Pooran has had scores of 0,0,9 and now 0. What is more perturbing is he has been dismissed for a golden duck, silver duck and now a diamond duck. A golden duck is a first-ball dismissal, a silver is a two-ball dismissal and a diamond is getting out without facing a delivery.

In the first game against Rajasthan Royals, Pooran fell for a first-ball duck as he mistimed the short ball. In the game against Chennai Super Kings, he was undone by Deepak Chahar’s swing. Although he scrapped for nine runs against Delhi Capitals, this diamond duck continues his woes.

Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad struggle

Both Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are at the bottom of the table in IPL 2021 along with Rajasthan Royals. Punjab Kings have won only one out of their three games. That win was a narrow four-run win against Rajasthan Royals in their first game of the tournament. After the win, Punjab Kings lost to Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad has been plagued by inconsistency.

They lost their first game to Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs. Against Royal Challengers Bangalore, they suffered a six-run loss while they collapsed against Mumbai Indians. This was the first time that Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost their first three games in the history of the IPL.
