IPL 2021: In pics, Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings, Match 8 at Mumbai

Deepak Chahar starred, grabbing a four-wicket haul in which he removed four of the top five Punjab Kings batsmen as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a thumping six-wicket win – their first in the IPL 2021 – in Mumbai on Friday. The win couldn’t have come at a better time, since it was skipper MS Dhoni’s 200th match for CSK. The right-arm pacer’s spell meant Punjab scored 106/8 in their 20 overs. However, that was a poor score on a Wankhede pitch known to be aid the batsmen. Chahar (4/13 from 4 overs) removed Mayank Agarwal (0), Chris Gayle (10), Deepak Hooda (10) and Nicholas Pooran (0). This left Punjab tottering at 26/5 after 6.2 overs.

Only Shahrukh Khan could offer some resistance and played some excellent shots, including a wonderful pull off Shardul Thakur.

The target was easy for CSK and they were not challenged in the slightest. CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early. However, a 66-run second wicket stand between Moeen Ali and Faf du Plessis took CSK within 16 runs of the target.

They lost 3 quick wickets thereafter but Du Plessis and Sam Curran saw CSK home without any further hiccups. The match ended with 4.2 overs left and CSK won six wickets to spare.
