Sunrisers Hyderabad’s middle-order continued to be a problem area for the side. Spinner Rahul Chahar and pacer Trent Boult helped Mumbai Indians to a 13-run win in their IPL 2021 match in Chennai on Saturday. Defending 150, leg-spinner Chahar (3/19) mopped up the middle-order before Boult (3/28) finished off the tail. As a result, SRH were bowled out for 137 in 19.4 overs. Having won the toss and opting to bat, MI had a good start thanks to openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock. However, Vijay Shankar and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman took two wickets each as SRH stemmed the flow of runs in the middle overs. But a Kieron Pollard trademark late surge was enough to lift MI to 150-5. Pollard’s 22-ball 35 included two sixes of the final two balls of their innings.
Now chasing 151 for a win, Jonny Bairstow slammed a 22-ball 43 to give SRH a good start. Skipper David Warner too managed 36 off 34 balls. However, once the duo were back in the hut, the middle-order again failed to come to the fore. That the likes of Virat Singh and Manish Pandey threw away their wickets didn’t help.
As a result, SRH have lost their opening 3 games of the season for the first time ever.
