The IPL 2021 continues to reel from the coronavirus pandemic. After the Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals clash was postponed, there is now a massive cloud over the Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians game. According to a report in Sportstar, BCCI sources have confirmed that Wriddhiman Saha has tested positive for COVID-19. After the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore game was postponed, the CSK vs RR game was also impacted with three members of the CSK staff testing positive.

Apart from Wriddhiman Saha, Delhi Capitals’ Amit Mishra has also tested positive for the coronavirus. Delhi Capitals players are already in isolation and their practice session was cancelled due to these developments. According to the BCCI SOP, if any member of the team tests positive, the entire side will have to go in isolation for six days.

This comes in the wake of reports that the Delhi bio-bubble suffered a massive breach. In a report by Times of India, the GPS tracking device used by the players has been faulty. This has resulted in a massive breach.

IPL set to be moved to Mumbai or postponed?

The IPL 2021 could be moved entirely to Mumbai but the BCCI will struggle with the logistics. With so many games impacted, the IPL 2021 might be postponed altogether.

Since Mumbai has three venues, namely the Wankhede stadium, Brabourne stadium and DY Patil stadium, it makes logical sense to play the entire remainder of the IPL in Mumbai. However, this might also involve reworking the entire schedule.

There are also reports that the final of the IPL might be extended to the first week of July. That might pose complications as the ICC World Test Championship might be played from June 18 to 22. India will take on New Zealand in Southampton. Since India is on the red list from the UK government, travelling might be an issue.
