After not playing for over a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the India women’s cricket team finally saw action. In November 2020, three teams played four games in the Women’s T20 Challenge. However, the India women’s team got some international action as well. South Africa toured India for five ODIs and three T20Is in Lucknow in February-March. Although India lost the ODIs and T20I series 1-4 and 1-2, there was relief that the women’s team finally saw action.

The women’s team will travel to England for one Test and three T20Is and ODIs in June. India has not played a Test for seven years. The India women’s cricket team has happy memories of England, having won two-Test series previously. Mithali Raj scored a record 214 nearly two decades ago in England.

More tours in the offing

Apart from the tour of England, there are reports that India could visit Australia in September and October. Although the details of the tour are not confirmed, India could play a full tour. The last time India played a Test in Australia was 15 years ago, when Australia won the series 1-0.

India can also host the West Indies for a series at home. The bio-bubble at the Ekana stadium in Lucknow for the series against South Africa proved to be successful. The BCCI might want to implement the same thing.
