The schedule for the India women’s cricket team tour to Australia has been announced. The side will play one Test, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals starting from September 19. The historic day-night Test match will be played at the WACA in Perth from September 30 to October 3. The tour will begin with three ODIs at the North Sydney Oval and the Junction Oval in Melbourne. After the Perth Test, the tour will end with three Twenty20 Internationals at the Junction Oval.

Although India toured Australia last year, this is the first time in 15 years that they will play a Test. In the last Test in Adelaide, India lost by an innings and four runs. Overall, India has played nine Tests against Australia, losing four and drawing five. India and Australia started playing Tests against each other in 1984.

The year 2021 is already proving to be a historic year for India women’s cricket team. They will play Tests in both England and Australia. This is the first time that India is playing two Tests in a calendar year since 2014.

Historic Test for India

The Pink-Ball Test in Perth will be historic for India. It is the second time that a Pink Ball Test is being played in women’s cricket. The first match was the Women’s Ashes in 2017 at the North Sydney Oval, a match that saw Ellyse Perry score a double ton. The WACA will host a women’s Test for the fifth time. The Hale School Ground hosted one.

Speaking about the development, Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said inviting India is ‘ground-breaking’. “It is testament to how far the game has come that we are in a position to host two women’s Test matches against the might of India and England, which we know will prove popular with cricket-lovers right around the world. The men’s Test series against India last season was an extremely competitive series that came down to the wire and we have no doubt that this women’s multi-format series will be just as hard-fought. We look forward to welcoming members of the India women’s team to Australia after what has been an incredibly challenging time and thank the BCCI,” Hockley said.
