On Thursday, January 19, South Africa Women will face India in the first match of the tri-series at Buffalo Park in East London. This will be a beneficial practice for both sides, as well as the West Indies, who will be the third team competing in the next ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, which begins on February 10. This will be the first game of the series, and both teams will be hoping to get off to a good start. In the round-robin stage of the tri-series competition, each team will play the other two teams twice. On February 2, the top two teams will compete in the final game. All of the games, including the final, will take place at Buffalo Park in East London. India Women will be without the services of Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh, who are competing in the U-19 Women’s World Cup.

Their absence will create a gap in the batting order, which already has concerns. However, the team management will view this as an opportunity to put other players to the test. Sabbhineni Meghana is expected to begin alongside Smriti Mandhana in place of Shafali, with Yastika donning the wicketkeeper’s gloves. Indian Women will also want Jemimah Rodrigues to rediscover her mojo in time for the big event. Notably, this will be the Proteas’ first international assignment since the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in August of last year, and they will need to improve before hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup. Sune Luus will head South Africa in the meantime, as Dane Van Niekerk failed to reach the national benchmark norms for fitness. Before the game let us take a look at key matchups.

Laura Wolvaardt vs Radha Yadav

The South African opener has had a great time in 2022, she would look to continue that in 2023 but she would have to face Yadhav who has dismissed twice in T20I previously.
