India will start their preparations for the 2023 World Cup against the world’s No. 1 team, New Zealand, in Hyderabad on Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the first of a three-match ODI series following their biggest-ever ODI victory. India will be confident after sealing their biggest-ever ODI triumph with only a two-day turnaround. India is possibly just as dominant in ODIs at home, albeit it isn’t publicised as much as their fantastic home record in Test cricket. Since the start of the 2010 season, they have played 25 bilateral home series, winning 22 of them. Given that India is planning to host a World Cup in 2023, this record would carry a lot more weight.

There has been no news on Yuzvendra Chahal’s shoulder injury, which he injured diving in the first ODI against Sri Lanka and has now kept him out for two games in a row. Axar’s absence will allow India to experiment with Washington in the No.7 spot for a prolonged length of time. Shardul Thakur may get a game in place of Umran, who picked up vital middle-overs wickets but bowled at an economy rate of more than 6.8 in both games against Sri Lanka and was rested for the third. In the XI from their last game, Henry Nicholls could be the front-runner to replace Williamson, while the bowling department is a toss-up between returning allrounder Dough Bracewell and Blair Tickner.
