As Rohit Sharma’s Team India prepares to face Jos Buttler’s England in the second semi-final of the ICC World T20 2022, the entire cricket community is anticipating another India-Pakistan classic on their biggest platform of all — the World Cup final. Following Virat Kohli’s excellent batting effort in the first game of the super 12 for India and Pakistan, veteran cricketer Shoaib Akhtar wishes for a rematch between the Asian arch-rivals. Still, the former Pakistani pacer is confident that England will somehow spoil Team India’s celebrations in the second T20 World Cup semi-final on Thursday.

Former Pakistani bowler Akhtar offered his thoughts before of the second semi-final between India and England, predicting that the Three Lions will triumph. Earlier the pacer had predicted Pakistan would crash out early but now they are in the finals. Akhtar had also said that India too would crash out in the semi-final. But now there is a possibility that both of these sides might meet again at the MCG in the big finale on Sunday.

“I want a rematch between India and Pakistan. But I think Pakistan will repeat history in 2022. Jaise 1992 ka World Cup jeetey they, New Zealand ko harakey final mein phochey they, waise he mujhey lagta hai England India ko phainta lagakey, wo phoch jayga final mein, aur phir hum unko harakey World Cup leke wapis ajaynge” Akhtar told a news portal. (I do want a rematch between India and Pakistan but I think history will repeat itself in 2022. Like how Pakistan won the 1992 World Cup, by defeating New Zealand to enter the final, England will beat India to enter the summit clash. And then we (Pakistan team) will beat England in the final to take home the World Cup trophy).

The former pacer also predicted that the team chasing would be at an advantage. But this world cup has shown that the teams batting first has won more games. In fact, Pakistan lost their game against Zimbabwe while chasing while they won their game against South Africa defending. India too won their last game at Adelaide against Bangladesh defending the total.
