The Indian cricket team will return to Test whites when they face Bangladesh in the opening of the two Tests on December 14th in Chattogram. This is their first Test since the fifth Test in July against England. The series is part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23, therefore these games are critical if India is to qualify for the final, which will be held at the Oval next year. They are now fourth in the standings, with four other teams vying for the final two spots. India’s prospects of reaching the finals improve if it wins this series 2-0. Let’s take a look at some of the big matchups before the opening game.
This year, Virat Kohli has struggled in Test cricket. In fact, his most recent Test century came against Bangladesh in the 2019 World Cup, when the two teams met in Kolkata. Back then, Kohli had a wood over Hossain, scoring 39 runs off 45 balls. Hossain dismissed him, but only after Kohli had won the game for the Tigers. However, Kohli was recently plagued by Hossain in the ODI series, so it would be interesting to see how the former Indian captain handles the Bangladeshi pacer in the first Test.

After missing the Tests against the West Indies, the former Bangladesh skipper will return to the team. Rahim is another Bangladesh hitter with Test experience against India. As a result, he would be as useful to the Bengal Tigers as Shakib. In the absence of Shami and Bumrah, Umesh Yadav will have to shoulder the pace bowling chores. However, he has a poor record against Rahim. He has only removed Rahim once, despite the fact that Rahim has scored runs at a decent strike rate of 64.3 and an average of 64.0 against Yadav.
