On Thursday, at 9.30 a.m. local time, Australia will relaunch its expedition to the ultimate frontier. They’ve tried ten times since 1969 and have only succeeded once. The commencement of another India home series is therefore marked by the pitch becoming the focal point of interest. The series is also likely to have an edge, with India counting on the results to go their way in order to reach the World Test Championship final, when they may face Australia again. For the visitors, it’s a chance to make amends after losing twice at home to India, and with improved performances on the subcontinent against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, they’ll be optimistic about their chances even though the difficulties are daunting.

In the absence of Rishabh Pant, who has recently been India’s No. 1 Test hitter, India is not ruling out a left-field pick in Suryakumar Yadav. Skipper Rohit Sharma has stated that the possibility is being considered, along with the in-form Shubman Gill. “Gill has been in fantastic form over the previous three to four months, with some large hundreds. Surya, on the other hand, has demonstrated what he is capable of in T20 cricket as well as the type of game he can bring to Test cricket “He stated this a day before the commencement of the Test.

Pitch

Nagpur held its most recent Test match in November 2017, when India faced Sri Lanka. India reached 610/6 in the first innings thanks to Virat Kohli’s 213 and hundreds from Rohit Sharma, Murali Vijay, and Cheteshwar Pujara. Sri Lanka scored 205 and 166 to lose by innings and 239 runs. That Test saw a total of 26 wickets, with pacers taking nine of them. While the match between India and Sri Lanka was one-sided, the forthcoming encounter between India and Australia is likely to be tight.
