In a high-octane, high-scoring encounter at the Holkar Stadium, Team India has set an imposing target of 400 runs for Australia to chase. It was a batting spectacle like no other, with Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill leading the charge as India amassed a commanding total of 399/5. Australia’s stand-in captain, Steven Smith, won the toss and decided to put India in to bat. While Ruturaj Gaikwad (8 off 12) fell early to Josh Hazlewood, what followed was an extraordinary batting display by the Indian duo of Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill. Together, they stitched together a monumental 200-run partnership for the second wicket, showcasing exceptional skill and resolve despite a brief interruption due to rain.

Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant century came to an end in the 31st over, courtesy of Sean Abbott, though not without a missed opportunity to dismiss him in the same over. KL Rahul, coming in at number 4, made a smashing entry with a maximum, but it was Shubman Gill who eventually departed after a dazzling exhibition of strokeplay, which included 6 fours and 4 sixes, with Cameron Green claiming the prized wicket.

Following Gill’s departure, Ishan Kishan brought a brief yet impactful cameo at number 5, amassing 31 runs from just 18 deliveries before succumbing to Adam Zampa. Rahul, on the other hand, reached his half-century before falling to Green, shortly after Suryakumar Yadav unleashed a flurry of boundaries, including 4 consecutive maximums off his Mumbai Indians teammate.

Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten at 72 runs from 37 balls, boasting an impressive tally of 6 sixes and an equal number of fours. Notably, this performance etched his name in the record books as the fastest Indian to reach a half-century against Australia in ODIs, achieving the milestone in a mere 54 balls.
