The India vs Sri Lanka series, which will comprise three T20Is and ODIs, has officially announced a revised schedule. In a press release issued by the BCCI, the tour, which was supposed to begin on July 13, will start on July 18. The tour will begin with three ODIs on July 18, 20 and 22. The tour will end with Twenty20 Internationals on 25, 27 and 29. All the matches will be at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo.

The rescheduled itinerary was brought about after two cases of coronavirus emerged from the Sri Lankan contingent. There is doubt as to whether Dasun Shanaka will be available to captain Sri Lanka after the latest development. Kusal Perera, who led Sri Lanka for the tour of England, has been axed and is in doubt for the series due to injury. Angelo Mathews, the experienced Sri Lanka all-rounder, is considering retirement.

No threat to the series

Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, said that they understood the situation in the Sri Lanka camp and agreed to reschedule the tour. “The BCCI would like to extend its full support to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) during these tough times for the smooth conduct of the upcoming series. Our medical team is in constant touch with the team of doctors at SLC and together following all safety protocols that will help the series to get underway. We are confident that both nations will put up a spirited show in the days to come and we are in for some exciting cricket,” Jay Shah said.

The Sri Lanka cricket team has been hit with a rather unsettling COVID crisis that does not seem to end. News broke out today that their video analyst has also tested positive, only a day after batting coach Grant Flower. The national cricket side confirmed the news on social media platforms after their RT-PCR test results came out on Friday. The support staff member has been reportedly quarantined and being taken care of by the team doctors. The same doctors are also keeping an eye on batting coach Flower.

“The Data Analyst of the Sri Lanka National Team, GT Niroshan, has tested positive for Covid 19. He was found to be positive, following a PCR Test carried out among the National Players, Coaches, and Support Staff yesterday, following the identification of Grant Flower as Covid Positive. Niroshan is now undergoing due medical protocols,” the Lankan cricket board said in a statement.
