India will be touring Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals in July but they will be playing all their matches at the R Premadasa stadium.
The Indian cricket team will play three ODIs and as many Twenty20 Internationals against Sri Lanka in July. While most of the senior Indian team will be in England for the ICC World Test Championship and the five Tests, there will be another Indian team selected for the series. The likes of Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar might be picked for the series. However, due to the coronavirus situation, the series might be played in just one venue in Sri Lanka. Galle and Pallekele hosted the previous matches in Sri Lanka.
This series could be played at the R Premadasa stadium. Colombo has not hosted many matches in the last couple of years due to the coronavirus situation in Sri Lanka. In an interview with Sportstar, Sri Lanka Cricket’s Administrative Committee chairman Arjuna de Silva said the matches will be held at the R Premadasa stadium.
As per the current guidelines of the Sri Lanka health ministry, the Indian cricketers will have to undergo a mandatory quarantine of seven days. Out of that, three days will be hard quarantine. The remaining four days will see the Indian cricket team train but they will not move around much. The guidelines of the Sri Lanka health ministry keep changing and the Indian cricket team will have to adhere to that.
India will tour Sri Lanka after three years. Their last series was in Colombo at the Nidahas Trophy tri-series involving Bangladesh. India lost the first game against Sri Lanka but they bounced back to reach the final where they defeated Bangladesh. Dinesh Karthik hit a last ball six off Soumya Sarkar to help India win the competition.
India has had the wood over Sri Lanka in the last couple of years. In the 2017 tour, India whitewashed Sri Lanka in the Tests, ODIs and Twenty20 Internationals to complete a ‘tourwash’. The selection of the Indian cricket team for the Sri Lanka team might take place in mid-June.
