As India faces its biggest crisis since the COVID-19 outbreak last year, with record cases registered in the past week and ongoing record numbers, the BCCI has assured that ‘you are totally safe within the bubble’.

The IPL, which started on April 9, has moved into its second leg on Monday and the BCCI has said that the T20 league will be good for the spirit of fans amid a crisis. Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced on Tuesday that all flights from India will be banned until May 15. The IPL 2021 final is scheduled to be played on May 30.

BCCI’s interim chief executive officer Hemang Amin has sent out an email to all the eight franchises involved and stated that the bio bubble safety is assured.

“I write to you at a time when India faces unprecedented challenges stretching its healthcare and spirit,” Amin wrote in the email, as accessed by ESPNcricinfo.

“As we commenced the second leg, we understand that there are few apprehensions and concerns regarding the general situation in India and the withdrawals of certain cricketers. We completely respect the decision taken by the players and extend our support to them in every way. At the same time, we would also assure you that you are totally safe within the bubble.”

Rigorous testing the ipl bubble

Amin has explained how the regular testing in the IPL has made the biobubble more secure for everyone involved in the league.

“In order to allay any apprehensions and concerns, we are further strengthening our bio-secure environments to keep everyone involved in the tournament safe and healthy. Recently, we increased testing in our bio-bubbles to be extra vigilant. Instead of the stipulated test every five days, we now conduct a test every two days”, Amin said.

“Further, earlier in the tournament, we had permitted food deliveries from outside your designated hotels, but these privileges have also been withdrawn. Apart from this, we have also increased our level of caution to strengthen our bio-bubbles.”

While the first leg of the marquee T20 league was hosted in Chennai and Mumbai, the second leg will be played in Ahmedabad and Delhi. The fixtures will next move to Bangalore, which goes into lockdown on Tuesday, and Kolkata. Meanwhile, the playoffs and the tournament will be hosted in the largest cricket stadium in the world in Ahmedabad.
