The ICC World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand is highly anticipated for many cricket fans. The top two teams in the World Test Championship cycle will clash for the ultimate Test price in the cricketing world. This will be the first time that India will play a neutral Test in their 88-year history. New Zealand have played neutral Tests against Pakistan in the UAE in 2014 and 2018.

After the end of the ICC World Test Championship final, India will play five Tests against England in August-September. However, all eyes will be on the match at the Rose Bowl. This is the first time in 25 years that India will be playing a Test in June in England. About 18000 fans will be in attendance for each of the days of the Test match. This is a welcome sight for the sport as the United Kingdom has controlled the coronavirus pandemic well.

Weather conditions in Southampton

However, all eyes will be on the weather. There is a general belief that the weather in Southampton in June is traditionally wet. However, in a recent research done on the weather and climate website, Southampton traditionally has sunny days in June. The average maximum temperature lies around 20.3 degree Celsius. It has 211 hours of sun in the month.

June is traditionally the longest month in the year. Some days or part of the day, it will be nice and warm and some moments it can be a bit chilly. In summer, temperatures are generally mild or cool. It can also rain, albeit a little less often than in winter.

Thus, in the last few years and decades, the rain has traditionally stayed away from Southampton in the period of June. Since it is closer to the coast, the humidity level might be a bit higher.

This is a good news for cricket fans as they would want to see a contest that is not interrupted by rain. The ICC has put out a reserve day in the ICC World Test Championship in case there is big rain interruptions. But, looking at weather trends, it is possible that rain might not play a role in the match between India and New Zealand.
