Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja has reclaimed the No.1 position in the list of all-rounders, for the latest ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings. The left-hander returns to No.1 after last being there in August 2017. Jadeja has accumulated 386 rating points which is two more than former West Indies captain Jason Holder. Holder was previously at the top in the rankings but lost 28 rating points to slip behind Ravindra Jadeja in the list of all-rounders.

Quinton de Kock returns to top 10 of ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings

South Africa’s Quinton de Kock has returned to the top 10 of the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, following his fine performance against West Indies. De Kock top-scored against the Caribbean-based nation, helping his team record a 158-run triumph in St Lucia. South Africa recorded a 2-0 win in the World Test Championship series, following the cricketer’s heroics.

The wicketkeeper-batsman’s knock of 96 in the first innings helped him gain two places and reach the 10th position. This is the first time in 18 months that he has finished in the top 10. The 28-year-old was last in the top 10 in December 2019. He has a career-best sixth ranking.

Other South Africans who have steadily progressed in the rankings are captain Dean Elgar and Rassie van der Dussen. Elgar jumped up one place to 19th after setting the platform for the win with a knock of 77. Van der Dussen has enjoyed a rise of 31 places to 43rd position after recording an unbeaten 75 in the second innings.

Keshav Maharaj jumps three places to 28th

Among the bowlers, Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj have benefitted on the back of quality performances. Player of the match Rabada is up one place to sixth, after taking five wickets in the match. Maharaj has progressed three places to 28th, after recording South Africa’s first Test hat-trick in 61 years during the second innings. Lungi Ngidi has jumped up three places to 41st.

West Indies batsman Jermaine Blackwood is up 12 places to 44th after scores of 49 and 25. Shai Hope (up three places to 82nd) and Kieran Powell (up six places to 94th) have also progressed in the list.

Fast-bowler Kemar Roach is inching closer to a top 10 position, having accounted for seven wickets. He moved up one slot to 12th among bowlers. Kyle Mayers has further jumped up 51 places to joint-53rd after finishing with three wickets in each innings. His ability to bowl effectively in the role of a medium-fast bowler could prove very valuable in the years to come for West Indies.

The team was recently fined 60 per cent of their match fee and penalised six ICC World Test Championship points for maintaining a slow over-rate against South Africa in the second Test in St Lucia. Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Kraigg Brathwaite’s side was ruled to be three overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.
