Afghanistan's bowling unit put up a commendable display to defend the target successfully.
In the inaugural T20I clash at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Afghanistan secured an impressive 72-run victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE), propelled by Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s spectacular century on Friday. Choosing to field first after winning the toss, UAE found themselves unable to contain Afghanistan’s run rate as their bowling attack struggled in Sharjah. While the Afghan opener Hazratullah Zazai managed only 13 runs from 16 balls, Gurbaz showcased brilliance by contributing 100 runs from 52 balls, steering the team to a formidable total of 203/3.
Ibrahim Zadran also played a pivotal role, scoring 59 runs from 43 balls and forming a crucial partnership with Gurbaz. Muhammad Jawadullah, Junaid Siddique, and Aayan Khan were the sole wicket-takers for the hosts during Afghanistan’s innings. In the pursuit of the target, Vriitya Aravind played an outstanding unbeaten knock of 70* runs from 64 balls in the second inning. However, his efforts were not complemented by substantial partnerships with fellow teammates.
