England batsman Dawid Malan, who was supposed to turn up for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the second phase of IPL 2021, has pulled out of the cash-rich tournament. Taking to Twitter, PBKS on Saturday (September 11) confirmed the news, citing that Malan will take some time off to be with his family and won’t be available for the second half of IPL 14. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Jonny Bairstow has also opted out of the UAE-leg of IPL 2021 due to personal reasons. A PTI report has suggested that the England wicketkeeper won’t be part of the IPL, starting September 19 in UAE.

Bairstow is the leading run-scorer for Sunrisers Hyderabad but they sit bottom of the standings at the halfway point and seem unlikely to reach the knockout phases while Woakes and Malan have only had bit-part roles with Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings respectively.

“Dawid Malan will not be travelling to UAE for the remainder of #IPL2021. He will be taking some time off to be with his family ahead of the #T20WorldCup and Ashes,” Punjab Kings tweeted.

REMAINING ENGLISH PLAYERS IN IPL

There were few players who had already withdrawn their names citing bio-bubble fatigue and packed schedules. The latest to join, as reported are Bairstow, Malan, and Chris Woakes, who were an integral part of their teams in the IPL. Ben Stokes and teammate Jos Buttler had already pulled out of the tournament.

Jason Roy, Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, Sam and Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Sam Billings and George Garton are all due to participate in the highly lucrative T20 competition.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians announced that captain Rohit Sharma, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and batsman Suryakumar Yadav arrived in Abu Dhabi on a private charter flight on Saturday morning.

The trio could have been involved in India’s fifth and final Test against England at Emirates Old Trafford, but it was dramatically called off on Friday, just a couple of hours before play on day one due to Covid-19 concerns in the tourists’ camp.

ROHIT, BUMRAH ARRIVE IN STYLE!

The Indian Premier League (IPL) side Mumbai Indians have flown in their three players — Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav — to Abu Dhabi. The cricketers arrived in the United Arab Emirates along with their families and will now be undergoing quarantine for six days. They also underwent RT-PCR tests that came negative.

“Mumbai Indians flew in three of its Indian contingent members, captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav, to Abu Dhabi on a private charter flight. The trio, along with their families, arrived today morning and will now undergo 6 days hard quarantine, starting today as per the IPL’s guidelines,” MI said in a statement.

“All members had returned negative RT PCR results before departure. A new RT PCR test was undertaken upon arrival at Abu Dhabi, which are negative as well.”
