Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsman Chris Gayle on Monday became the first cricketer to smash 350 sixes in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gayle recorded the milestone in the franchise’s opening league encounter of IPL 2021 against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The 41-year-old smashed a delivery from English all-rounder Ben Stokes over the deep square for a massive six, to complete the historic landmark. While it is no secret that Gayle is arguably the most dangerous batsman in the history of T20 cricket, this milestone further indicates what a legend he is.

The Windies cricketer followed it up with his 351st six in the IPL against Rahul Tewatia, smashing the spinner with great confidence. Gayle has now hit 351 sixes in 133 IPL matches, which is the highest by any player. He is followed by AB de Villiers who has recorded 237 big hits in 170 games.

MS Dhoni is the third name on the list of players who have smashed the highest number of the sixes in the history of the cash-rich league. Dhoni has recorded 216 sixes in 205 matches. Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli round off the top-five list.

Rohit has registered 214 sixes in 201 games with Virat smashing 201 sixes in 193 matches.

Gayle enjoys the unique distinction of being the first player to smash 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and 350 sixes in the history of IPL. Adam Gilchrist is the only player to have defeated him in one particular aspect of the race for sixes. Gilchrist is the first to smash 50 sixes in the history of the cash-rich league.

Gayle will be looking to help the Punjab-based franchise win an edition of the IPL for the first time in their history.
