Windies superstar Chris Gayle has now recorded the most ducks in the T20 format of the game. Gayle has accumulated 29 ducks so far, over the course of his career having represented different franchises and teams. The 41-year-old surpassed fellow Windies cricketer Dwayne Smith who had retired with 28 ducks in the shortest format, on Monday during an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 league encounter. The game was between Punjab Kings (PBKS) who Gayle represents and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The Windies cricketer was dismissed for a golden duck, following an excellent review by the Kolkata-based franchise. Gayle ended up getting a feather edge through to wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik while trying to dig out a slightly wide delivery from Shivam Mavi. There was a noise in real-time, which was further confirmed as an under-edge after Karthik insisted on a review. Gayle was dismissed for a golden duck, which is quite rare.

Mavi 9 months old when Gayle made international debut

It is further interesting to note that Mavi, the bowler was nine months old when the Windies cricketer made his international debut. Gayle has been dismissed for a golden duck only twice in the IPL. Umesh Yadav was the first bowler to dismiss the 41-year-old for a golden duck, having recorded the feat in 2017. Interestingly, Umesh represented KKR in the previous editions of the cash-rich league and was a part of the lineup in 2017, marking an unfortunate connection for Gayle who himself featured for the Kolkata-based franchise previously.

Balkh Legends, Barisal Bulls, Barisal Burners, Chattogram Challengers, Chittagong Vikings, Dhaka Gladiators, Jamaica, Jamaica Tallawahs, Jozi Stars, Karachi Kings, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lahore Qalandars, Lions, Matabeleland Tuskers, Melbourne Renegades, PCA Masters XI, Punjab Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Rangpur Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Somerset, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Stanford Superstars, Sydney Thunder, West Indians, West Indies, Western Australia.

The Windies superstar has represented all these teams in T20 cricket over the years, which is extraordinary, to say the least.

Umar Akmal (27), Shahid Afridi (27), Kamran Akmal (26) and Lendl Simmons (26) are the other players to have recorded the most ducks in the shortest format of the game.
