CSK started the season with a loss, despite scoring 178 runs on the back of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s brilliant 92 off 50 balls, the four-time champions failed to get over the finishing line. They were asked to bat first by Hardik Pandya. There were patchy contributions in the middle order and MS Dhoni hit some lusty blows in the end. CSK managed to get to a decent score but their bowlers had a day to forget. CSK’s bowling failed to impress and we were very expensive. Tushar Deshpande, the impact player was expensive and let the match slip off their grip. In addition, the bowlers need o work on yorkers and change of pace in the slog overs. Mahesh Theekshana and Mathisha Pathirana are on national duties representing Sri Lanka and are yet to join the squad

Lucknow Super Giants unit was clinical at the start of the competition, defeating Delhi Capitals comprehensively by a margin of 50 runs. Rahul failed to take the team off to a good start, but Kyle Mayers and others contributed and took the Lucknow-based franchise got off to a good start. Mayers smashed the opposition bowlers and Nicholas Pooran continued from where Mayers ended. They took the score to 193 which seemed way too much for DC. There was a bit of dew but still, the Delhi Capitals failed to make use of it and fell short of the target, handing LSG their first victory this season.
