Biggest buys in IPL auction: English players

Sam Curran became the most expensive player in the history of the IPL as Punjab Kings bagged him for a whopping sum of INR 18.50 Crore.

The IPL 2023 mini-auction took place at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Kochi on Friday. The player of the tournament in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Sam Curran became the most expensive player in the history of the IPL as Punjab Kings bagged him for a whopping sum of INR 18.50 Crore. Ben Stokes became the joint-third most expensive player as Chennai Super Kings picked him for INR 16.25 crore equalling Chris Morris’ record when he was picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for 16.25 crore in 2021.

The right-hand batter, Harry Brook who has been in brilliant form this year was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 13.25 crore. Royal Challengers Bangalore bought all-rounder, Will Jacks for INR 3.20 crore and Reece Topley for INR 1.90 crore. Rajasthan Royals bagged Joe Root for his base price of INR 1 crore towards the end of the auction, in the accelerated round where some players were re-auctioned.

Wicket-Keeper Batsmen, Phil Salt was grabbed by the Delhi Capitals for INR 2.20 crore and Adil Rashid were sold to the Sunrisers Hyderabad for 2 crore. However, some talented players like Tom Curran, Tom Banton, Chris Jordan, Luke Wood and Dawid Malan remained unsold. Young and upcoming players like Will Smeed, Jamie Overton, Richard Gleeson and Rehan Ahmed also remained unsold as they got no bidders in the recently concluded IPL auction.
