Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly, on Sunday (May 9), confirmed that India will tour Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is in July.

While the Test squad will remain in England, India will send a separate white-ball squad to Sri Lanka for the limited-overs series. India will play the WTC final, on June 18, against New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The final was previously scheduled at Lords, in London, but it was moved to Southampton for logistical purposes.

With India sending a white-ball squad to Sri Lanka in July, the chances of IPL 2021 resuming in the near future are out. India has the final of the World Test Championship scheduled in June.

No IPL 2021 in July-August window

The five-match away Test series against England will begin on August 5. The Indian squad will stay back in the UK after the WTC final. Sourav Ganguly has closed all the possibility of IPL resuming in the July-August window after confirming the Sri Lanka tour.

“India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organizational hazards like 14-day quarantine. It can’t happen in India. This quarantine is tough to handle. Too early to say how we can find a slot to complete the IPL,” Ganguly told Sportstar.

Ganguly has also spoken about life in a bio-bubble and how it has impacted many players. “Bubble life is harsh; it’s the toughest thing. Since last September, a majority of players around the world have been living inside a bubble. There is no option. We can’t play cricket without the bubble.”
