There is no stopping Bangladesh as they continued to dominate proceedings in their own backyard. They have taken a crucial 1-0 lead in the T20 series against New Zealand. This is Bangladesh’s first victory over the Black Caps in T20 Internationals and what a way to do it. Bangladesh bowled out the Black Caps for just 60 runs in 16.5 overs. In reply, Bangladesh chased down the target convincingly with five overs to spare. They finished 62/3 in 15 overs. This is the joint lowest total for the Black Caps in T20s. Credit should go to the Bangladesh bowlers as the pick of the bowlers was Mustafizur Rahman who ended up with figures of 3-12 in 2.5 overs. Nasum Ahmed, Shakib Al-Hasan and Saifuddin had 2 wickets each. The visitors will now look to come stronger in the next game.

BLACK CAPS HAD NO ANSWERS FOR THE TIGERS

Tom Latham had won the toss and decided to bat first and that is the only thing that went their way. New Zealand lost wickets at regular intervals and were always behind the curve. Skipper Tom Latham (18) and Henry Nicholls (18) had tried to repair things but they too fell after getting starts. In the end, they were bowled out for 60 and could not even play out their 20 overs. This is something the Black Caps will look to forget as soon as possible. They have four more T20s to fight for.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, were brilliant with the ball. Shakib Al Hasan, Nasum Ahmed and Mohammad Saifuddin took 2 wickets each while Mahedi Hasan took 1. Mustafizur Rahman was brilliant with the ball as he took 3 wickets and deceived the batsmen with his variations.

SLOW PITCHES MAKE THE HOME TEAM DOMINANT

The target was a small one but New Zealand spinners removed the Bangladeshi openers early. Ajaz Patel and Cole McConchie took 1 wicket each at the start to keep things interesting. But a nice stand between Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim repaired things for the hosts. Shakib Al Hasan fell for 25 but by then the hosts were very close to winning the game. In the end, Mahmudullah joined Rahim to seal the deal. This is the same template that was seen when the hosts beat Australia not too long ago. The bowlers dominated the game on slow pitches and won them the matches.

Mahmudullah, the winning skipper, says that clinching the first game is good but they have to carry this momentum forward. Crediting the bowlers, he says that they were very disciplined and stuck to their plans.

Tom Latham, the losing captain, says that their batting start was quite disappointing. He added that they tried to repair things in the middle overs but kept losing wickets regularly. He further says that they will learn plenty of things and will try to bat better in these conditions. He further added that batting here is very different as compared to batting back in New Zealand.
