Mumbai Indians had made a confident start against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2021 clash in Chennai. Rohit Sharma was looking good for a fifty and was in the zone for a big score. However, the introduction of Amit Mishra changed the situation of the game. Mishra, the IPL veteran who is the leading wicket-taker among Indian bowlers, got the better of Rohit Sharma for the seventh time. In the same over, he picked up Hardik Pandya and later on, chipped in with the wicket of Kieron Pollard.

Mishra also got the massive wicket of Ishan Kishan to break the partnership. The Delhi legspinner was the Man of the Match for his haul of 4/24 and he stated that he tried to not change much.

“Just tried to bowl good areas, just try to take wickets. Different bowlers have different style. My style is to bowl in the air. Don’t want to change much. Sometimes the speed maybe. I try to understand the wicket and bowl like that,” Mishra, who has now taken 164 wickets in the IPL, said.

Mishra also said that he also planned certain wickets and he took the example of Hardik, who fell for his fourth duck against the Delhi Capitals. “I always think about the wickets. Was little bit holding there, just trying to bowl in the right areas. I feel whenever you bowl in T20s, you just take wickets. Then, you put the opposition team under pressure. I never change my bowling and bowl to my strengths. I think about variations and not change in pace. Whenever he (Hardik Pandya) comes, I’ll go for a wicket. I just tossed it up, went for the wicket and got it,” Mishra said.

Delhi Capitals survive

Mumbai Indians bowled with tremendous hostility but Delhi Capitals managed to hang in. Lalit Yadav got promoted up the order and he managed to get Delhi Capitals over the line. Rishabh Pant, the captain of the Delhi Capitals, said Lalit played calmly. “We are trying to groom him. I thought he can do wonders on this wicket. It was great to see the maturity,” Pant said in the post-match press conference.

There was also a major match-up between Pant and Jasprit Bumrah. The Mumbai Indians bowler had taken Pant’s wicket on previous occasions. In Chennai, Bumrah once again managed to dismiss him but the Delhi Capitals captain was not bothered by this fact.

“As a player, you don’t focus on match-ups. It does not matter what you have done before. They had to bowl Bumrah. I had to go for my shots as we were chasing. We need to focus on scenarios,” Pant said.
