An interesting statistic about his spell was that every batter he dismissed walked back to the pavilion before opening their respective accounts.

On Wednesday, Namibian fast bowler Ruben Trumpelmann set a new record in T20 international cricket when he took three wickets in the first over of the Super 12 match against Scotland at the ICC T20 World Cup in Abu Dhabi. Trumpelmann took three important wickets in four overs and conceded only 17 runs. An interesting statistic about his spell was that every batter he dismissed walked back to the pavilion before opening their respective accounts. Trumpelmann dismissed opener George Munsey, Calum MacLeod, and skipper Richie Berrington.

What makes the spell even more impressive is that Trumpelmann managed this feat in his first-ever T20 international over. Certainly, he had a lot of help from the pitch, and had it been a team ranked higher than Scotland, he might not have picked three wickets in an over. However, it was still a highly impressive display of masterful bowling and something the Namibian bowler will be quite proud of.

The match against Scotland was the firsts Namibia had played in the Super 12 stage of the competition. They currently sit third in a group that includes the likes of India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Afghanistan. Regardless of their performance in the rest of the tournament, this is certainly a very positive start for them and something that they can build on in this and any future competition.

NAMIBIA’S EXCELLENT VICTORY OVER SCOTLAND

Namibia continued to impress in the competition, having defeated Scotland in the Super 12 match between the two teams on Wednesday. The former won by four wickets after being set a target of 110 runs to chase. While there were no standout performances with the bat, JJ Smit deserves credit for ensuring a calm conclusion to the proceedings. Smit made his presence known with a mature performance against Scotland, a difficult opponent to navigate if left unchecked. The cricketer finished the chase with a six after remaining unbeaten on 32 runs off 23 deliveries in an innings that included two boundaries and maximums each.

Leask was also the top batsman, scoring 44 runs off 27 deliveries in a knock that included four boundaries and two maximums. None of the other batters were able to make much of an impact, ultimately costing Scotland the game. Ruben Trumpelmann and Jan Frylinck were the standout bowlers for Scotland, taking three and two wickets respectively.
