The host nation, India, collected their first medal owing to Nitu Ghanghas’s win in the quarter-finals at the Women’s World Boxing Championships taking place in New Delhi. The boxer from Bhiwani, Haryana, completely dominated her quarterfinal matchup against Madoka Wada of Japan, forcing the referee to stop the bout in the second round. With this victory, Nitu is guaranteed at least a bronze medal in the competition, which will be her first medal at the World Boxing Championships.  The victory was Nitu’s third Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) victory of competition.

Nitu Ghanghas has won all of her games based on RSC verdicts. The 22-year-old fighter has been doing exceptionally well in the competition, defeating Tajik opponent Qosimova Sumaiya in the first round with RSC in her pre-quarter-final match.  During the match, the referee stopped the fight after twice awarding standing counts in quick succession to her during her impressive performance. Nitu’s quick combination blows poured down on Sumaiya, leaving no time for the Tajik boxer to regroup before the referee had to step in. The fight ended in the first round itself.
