San Miguel Beermen will take on Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the PBA match on October 9 at PhilSports Complex (Pasig City). In the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday, October 5, at the Araneta Coliseum, Baser Amer and Mike Ayonayon produced crucial baskets to help Blackwater defeat San Miguel in a comeback victory of 109-106. The Bossing finished their comeback from a 15-point deficit to defeat the Beermen for the first time since the 2018 Governors’ Cup as Amer nailed the go-ahead three and Ayonayon produced the win-sealing steal and layup. When Amer snatched an offensive rebound and made a three-pointer with less than two minutes remaining, San Miguel had a 106-104 lead plus the foul. Ayonayon intercepted a pass from CJ Perez and made a wide-open layup for the game’s final score, despite Amer missing the extra free throw.
With 20 seconds left, the Beermen had plenty of time to attempt the equalizer, but Marcio Lassiter and immigrant Diamond Stone both missed three-pointers. With a triple-double of 20 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists, and 2 blocks, import Cameron Krutwig led the way for Blackwater, while Amer finished with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. For the Bossing, Troy Rosario also had a significant contribution. However, he lost 8 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter while collaborating with Krutwig on two crucial three-pointers.
