San Miguel Beermen vs Meralco Bolts PBA playoffs match will be held on August 10. In Game 1 of their quarterfinal 2022 PBA Philippine Cup series, the fifth-seeded Meralco Bolts defeated the fourth-seeded Barangay Ginebra team 93-82 to advance to the semifinals. Here are three comments on Sunday’s game since there is a lot to analyze in the outcome. There is usually excitement in Ginebra-Meralco playoff matches. They have all concluded in a Ginebra victory thus far. In the Governors’ Cup Finals from the previous season, where Justin Brownlee destroyed them as usual, the Bolts fell short in six games. Scottie Thompson’s corner three in the decisive semifinal Game 5 struck fear into the hearts of those in the 2020 Philippine Cup bubble. Of course, Brownlee kicked off the entire thing in 2016 with that buzzer-beating three.

Simply said, the Bolts have never defeated the Kings in a postseason series, and this is the closest they’ve ever come to getting the thorn in their side removed. They now have two opportunities to complete the task, a situation they have never encountered when playing the Kings. It’s a task Chris Newsome is eager to take on. The trends for these two teams are divergent. Despite being the lesser seed in this series, the Bolts have performed better than their opponents lately. Meralco has defeated Ginebra twice in the past two weeks and has won six of its previous seven games.

Ginebra, however, has dropped three of its last five contests. The two victories were over groups that were no longer competing in the Philippine Cup. All three of the losses were by double digits. The Kings have had several difficulties. For example, Aguilar is still healing from dengue. He allegedly still has blurry vision and is often fatigued. The first game was a wonderful reflection of how these two clubs are currently playing.
