Magnolia Hotshots will take on San Miguel Beermen in the PBA match on November 16 at Smart Araneta Coliseum (Manila). On Sunday, November 6, at the Araneta Coliseum, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Barangay Ginebra defeated Barangay Ginebra 97-96 after a comeback victory by Scottie Thompson. With 4.8 seconds remaining, Thompson hit the game-winning triple from the left corner for the Gin Kings, who overcame a 19-point deficit to win their third consecutive game and move to 5-2 for sole possession of fourth place in the standings. The reigning PBA MVP Thompson stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals before finishing a steal when Beermen import Devon Scott dropped the ball in the final seconds.
Many others, including Chris Ross, a seasoned San Miguel player, thought Scott was fouled during that disastrous possession and complained about the non-call, but to no avail. With a near triple-double of 33 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block, Justin Brownlee led the way for Ginebra as he and Thompson planned their comeback, scoring a combined 15 points in the fourth quarter. After a strong third quarter from CJ Perez, the Beermen took an 80-63 lead. They continued to lead 92-81 midway through the fourth quarter before the Gin Kings put together a 13-2 run to force a 94-94 tie.

In the fourth quarter, the Gin Kings outscored the Beermen 34-16. The two forwards held down the fort for a Gin Kings team that was missing Christian Standhardinger, combining for 13 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, and 13 points, 8 rebounds for Japeth Aguilar and 13 points, 8 rebounds for Jamie Malonzo.
