Greece vs Belgium 2022 FIBA U-18 European Championship Women’s game will be held on August 8. Portugal defeated Great Britain’s Under-18s 67-49 at the FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship, improving Portugal’s record to 1-3. Portugal pulled away in the third quarter. Great Britain only led by one point at the break, but they were unable to retain their lead against the unbeaten Group A champions, falling into the 9-18 Classification groups and postponing their advancement for another summer. Leia Edwards notched her second double-double of the game with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Fatmata Janneh, who came off the bench, chipped in with 11 points and 9 boards.

Edwards’ powerful inside finish gave the game’s opening goal, but for the next seven minutes, the British team’s attempts to get past the Portuguese defense were unsuccessful. Fortunately, they only gave up six points at that moment, as Janneh and Edwards were able to swiftly tie the score. With both sides struggling to shoot at 23 percent, Portugal prevailed over the opponent in the first quarter with a score of 11-9. Issy Bunyan and Carys Roy, both of Welsh descent, briefly gave Great Britain the lead, but their opponents responded with an 8-0 run to take the lead back. GB shot 5-of-20 from beyond the arc and only made one three-pointer in the first half despite drawing 13 fouls from their opponents. They also made 13 out of 20 attempts at the foul line. Edwards took Great Britain the lead early in the third with a challenging and-1, but Portugal promptly retaliated with one of their own to launch a dominant 19-2 run. GB was behind 51-33 heading into the fourth quarter, an increase of 18 points in the margin.
