France will take on Bosnia & Herzegovina in the 2025 EuroBasket World Cup Qualifiers on November 14. On Friday, Lithuania had a chance to advance to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023; but, after suffering one of their heaviest home losses, they now find themselves behind France. The fact that France is now in first place in the group and still has a home match against Lithuania scheduled for February puts them in control of the situation. Bosnia and Herzegovina aren’t going anywhere because they are still a win behind their neighbors, but Montenegro had a significant away victory to move closer to making their second consecutive World Cup appearance.
As the emerging star made his national team debut in Lithuania, all eyes were on Victor Wembanyama. The 18-year-old stood out for France in a 90-65 victory over Lithuania on the road. He finished the game with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Sylvain Francisco’s life was made easy by the fact that everyone’s attention was focused on the enormous center. Because of the shooting guard’s four three-pointers in the third quarter, which helped France go from +10 to +23 in the ten minutes after halftime, this ended up being a one-way path. Francisco scored a team-high 21 points in only 18 minutes, making 5-of-5 three-point attempts. Eimantas Bendzius and Marek Blazevic scored 14 points for Lithuania, but they now have a record of 7-2, the same as France. They will face a difficult challenge to win the tiebreaker in the rematch in France in February.
