Serbia will take on Turkey in the 2025 EuroBasket World Cup Qualifiers on November 14. Latvia defeated Greece 80-60 in Group I of the European Qualifiers to secure their spot and will make their debut at the FIBA Basketball World Cup. The Latvians extended their winning streak in the European Qualifiers to eight games to qualify for the World Cup after being dismayed to learn they would not be competing in the FIBA EuroBasket 2022, their first absence from the continental showcase since 1999. After Turkey defeated Belgium 86-52, keeping their chances of qualifying for the World Cup alive, the Latvians could only rejoice. Serbia triumphed as well, defeating Great Britain 74-68 on the road.
With an 80-60 victory over Greece, Latvia continued to be one of the continent’s hottest teams and extended their eight-game winning run in the European Qualifiers. The club of Luca Banchi never trailed in the game and never looked back after an 11-2 second-half run gave them a 14-point advantage. With Janis Strelnieks leading the way with 19 points, Janis Timma adding 17 points, and Dairis Bertans contributing 15 points, Latvia advanced to 6-1 in the group. With 11 points each from Nikos Gkikas and Kostas Gontikas, Greece slid to 4-3 overall.
