China defeats Bahrain by a score of 80-79 to prevent a major upset, allowing Korea to claim first place in Group B with an earlier victory over Chinese Taipei by a score of 87-73. Korea was the first team in the group to record a victory, riding the momentum of their historic victory against China in their opening match. Chinese Taipei put up a fight, showing off their form after the victory over Bahrain, and trailed by just two points at the end of the first quarter. Korea’s weapons proved to be simply too much in the end. With 22 points and 5 rebounds, Gu Quan once again topped China in scoring. Jiang Weize also played well for them, scoring most of his 20 points in the second half while coming off the bench. Wayne Chism led Bahrain once more with a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds.
