The return of Geelong-Korea, according to ABL general manager Paul Gonzalez, is a huge announcement for the league and the City of Greater Geelong.
Melbourne will take on Geelong-Korea in the Australia ABL match on November 11 at Melbourne Ballpark. After being absent from the national tournament for two years owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, GEELONG’S Australian Baseball League (ABL) club is making a comeback. The eighth team in the ABL’s organization, Geelong-Korea, which is nearly exclusively made up of Korean players, will participate in the 2022–23 season. The return of Geelong-Korea, according to ABL general manager Paul Gonzalez, is a huge announcement for the league and the City of Greater Geelong. Gonzalez expressed his delight with Geelong-returning Korea to the team.
They provide a really distinctive foreign element to the ABL, especially when you consider that the Korean baseball market is arguably one of the top three worldwide. Therefore, having “GK” back in the league is exciting for the ABL as well as the other clubs and Geelong. Peter Murrihy, the mayor of Geelong, expressed his joy at learning that Geelong-Korea will be making a comeback to the diamond in Geelong. We’re excited that the Geelong-Korea team will play at the Geelong Baseball Centre this summer after a two-year absence caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. An international broadcast of the game from Geelong is anticipated to reach 20 million baseball fans in southeast Asia, making it an excellent promotional opportunity for our area.

The team will play its home games at the Geelong Baseball Centre in Waurn Ponds, much as it did during its first season in 2018–19. The Adelaide Giants, Auckland Tuatara, Brisbane Bandits, Canberra Cavalry, Melbourne Aces, Perth Heat, and Sydney Blue Sox are just a few of the ABL teams that Geelong-Korea will compete against. The second weekend in November will mark the start of ABL23, with Geelong-Korea traveling to Melbourne to face the Aces. The Adelaide Giants will be GK’s first opponent in a home series in Round 2 from November 17–20.
