Brothers of Destruction Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will enter the Commonwealth Games 2022 as a strong contender for Gold.
In Commonwealth Games 2018, the Indian men’s doubles pair Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy entered the quadrennial event as newcomers in the international arena. However, the pair was determined to achieve something bigger than their ranks. They took the challenge and accomplished the task by reaching the Men’s doubles final at the Gold Coast, 2018. Although they suffered a straight-set defeat against the Rio Olympics 2016 Bronze medal pair Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge by 13-21, 16-21, the duo had ensured the nation’s first-ever medal in Men’s doubles event with a silver medal victory.
Four years later, the Indian pair established themselves as one of the destructive pairs in the men’s doubles event. The duo represented India at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and defeated the Chinese Taipei’s pair of Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin which eventually claimed the Gold medal. However, the duo suffered a heart-breaking exit from Tokyo despite winning two out of three matches as the top two teams to qualify for the knockouts from each group were decided based on the number of sets won. After Tokyo, the world-ranked eighth pair played a huge role in India’s historical triumph at the Thomas Cup 2022. Known as the Brothers of Destruction, Chirag and Satwik will enter the competition with a much bigger aim than before at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
