The World Athletics Championships is a biennial multi-nation competition organized by World Athletics (formerly IAAF) featuring the world’s best athletes competing over a period of 10 days. The World Athletics Championships 2022 began on July 15 which featured an Indian contingent including Murali Sreeshankar and Avinash Sable. India fielded a strong 22-member contingent for the event.
India’s only medal at the World Athletics Championships was won by Anju Bobby George when she finished third in women’s long jump in 2003. The Championships were scheduled to be hosted last year, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is set to be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, United States.
