One of the quickest sprinters in Britain, Zharnel Hughes has earned top honours while competing for both Great Britain and England. Zharnerl was born in Anguilla on July 13, 1995, and represented the country there until 2014. During that period, she won six gold medals, one silver, and two bronze medals while competing.
Zharnel Hughes mother worked as a maid and his father as a cab driver, His mother’s side of the family is Jamaican, and some of his relatives were sprinters. He was given a scholarship in 2012 to train with Usain Bolt at the IAAF’s High Performance Training Centre in Jamaica. His eligibility was questioned following his victory at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships because Anguilla lacks an internationally recognized Olympic Committee.
Hughes decided to run for the United Kingdom and was qualified because Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory. “I have always known that if I were to run at the Olympics it would be in a British vest and that is how I have always dreamed it would be,” he remarked in reference to his choice. Due to a tear in a ligament in his right knee, he would miss the Olympics in Rio, but he would return to win gold at the 2018 European Championships. At the 2019 World Championships, a bronze in the men’s 4×100-meter relay would follow.
It’s not known if Zharnel Hughes is dating anyone right now. He did, however, previously date Dina Asher-Smith, a British 200-meter world champion. However, the pair parted ways in 2018.
