Pilavullakandi Thekkeraparambil Usha was born on June 27, 1964. She is a former track and field competitor from India. She was born in Kuthali, Kozhikode, Kerala. Her connection to Indian athletics dates back to 1979. She has earned seven silver medals and four gold medals in Asia. As the “Queen of Indian track and field,” she is frequently referred to. She was nominated to the Rajya Sabha on July 6, 2022, by former President Ram Nath Kovind. Usha won the Indian Olympic Association’s presidential election without a challenge in December 2022. In December 2022, PT Usha was appointed to the panel of Rajya Sabha vice chairs to oversee the proceedings of the upper house while the Chairman and Deputy Chairman are both away. She is the first MP in history to be elected Vice Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha.

Usha set national records in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash at the senior inter-country competition held in Bangalore in 1981, clocking 11.66 and 24.08. She broke the national record for the 200 m at the 1983 Open National Championships in Jamshedpur with a time of 23.9 s and set a new one for the 400 m with a time of 53.6 s. That same year, she also won silver medals in the 100 and 200 meters at the Asian Games in New Delhi, clocking 11.95 and 25.32 s.

At the Asian Games in Seoul in 1986, she nearly replicated her Jakarta Championships performance. With a time of 11:67 seconds, she took silver in the 100 meters, losing the gold to Lydia de Vega. All three events set new Games records: the 200-meter gold came in 23.44, the 400-meter gold in 52.16, and the 4×400-meter relay gold in 3.34.58. Usha was a star performer, a fierce competitor, and a joy to watch run during the Games, according to British athletics coach Jim Alford. She is fully capable. She is capable of being world-class and she is in the right direction.

Together with Rachita Mistry, Valdivel Jayalakshmi, and E.B. Shyla, she represented India in the 4 x 100-meter relay. At the Asian Athletics Championships in 1998, where her team won the gold medal and established the 44.44-point national record.
