Morgan Lake was born on 12 May 1997. She is a British high jumper She finished fourth at the 2022 Commonwealth Games after taking home the silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Lake came in sixth place at the 2017 World Athletics Championships and fourth at the 2018 World Indoor Championships. In 2013, she shattered the 29-year-old UK Under-17 high jump record, and the following year, she shattered the 23-year-old UK U20 high jump record. At the 2014 World U20 Championships, Lake, a former combined events champion, won the high jump and heptathlon titles at the age of 17. Additionally, that year, she broke the U18 indoor world pentathlon record. She won the high jump competition for the U20 age group in 2015.
Lake qualified for the Olympic high jump final at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, becoming the first British woman to do so since Debbie Marti in 1992. She holds the undisputed national record for the high jump indoors in the United Kingdom. She took home 12 national championships in Britain. Her father, Eldon Lake, serves as her coach as she competes for the Windsor, Slough, Eton, and Hounslow Athletic Club. Lake broke the World U18 record for the pentathlon in February 2014 while competing in an indoor athletics competition in Vaxjo, Sweden. She did this by surpassing Carolina Klüft’s previous mark of 4261 points with a score of 4284.
In her first-ever senior heptathlon competition on May 2 and 3, 2014, Lake won the prestigious Multistars international title. She became the youngest champion in the 27-year history of the competition despite being nine days away from turning 17 years old. With a score of 5896, she outperformed Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill (5116), who finished 13th in the same event in 2003 at the age of 17, by 780 points. Moreover, Lake’s performance broke Katarina Johnson-Thompson’s 2009 record for the heptathlon in the UK Youth division (5481) by 415 points.
In 2022, she won the British title again, finished fourth in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, and seventh at the European Championships in Munich. At the specialized Hustopeské skákán meet in Hustopee, Czech Republic, on February 4, 2023, Lake set a new national record for the indoor high jump by clearing 1.99 meters.
