At the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships, Gabby dominated the 200 m in a timing of 22.38 which was also a new collegiate record.

Thomas won the bronze medal in the 200 m finals with a timing of 21.87 on August 3, 2021, at the postponed 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, behind Elaine Thompson-Herah and Christine Mboma. They clinched the gold and silver medals respectively. She then ran the anchor three days later, on August 6, 2021, after the American team had advanced to the 4 x 100-meter relay finals.
