Asha Philip is a well-known sprinter. She was born in the UK on October 25, 1990. She is an English sprinter and a former double mini-trampoline specialist in junior gymnastics. Philip, who was born in Leyton, East London, to a father from Antigua and a mother from Jamaica, attended Connaught School for Girls in Leytonstone. She earned a BA (Hons) in drama from Kingston University in 2012.
When she won gold at the 2007 World Youth Championships at the age of 16, she became the first British woman to win a world 100-meter title in any age group. After suffering a severe knee injury while competing in gymnastics, she underwent a lengthy period of rehabilitation before returning to athletics full-time in 2014. She represented Great Britain in the 4 x 100-meter relay, winning gold at the European Athletics Championships, and England took home bronze in the same competition at the Commonwealth Games.
Asha won her first senior individual title in 2017 by winning the women’s 60-meter gold medal at the European Athletics Indoor Championships. She also competed for Great Britain in the 4 x 100-meter relay team that took home the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In the same competition, she also took home silver medals at the world championships in 2017 and 2019. Philip, a renowned quick starter and 60-meter sprinter, typically runs the first leg for the relay team.
Since the age of 4, Philip had competed in a double mini trampoline event. Her victory in the junior (15–16 years old) girls division of the world age competition in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, earned her the title of World Junior Champion on double mini-trampoline. While competing for Great Britain in the double-mini team event at the senior Trampoline World Championships in Quebec, Canada, in July 2007, Philip won the 100-meter gold medal at the World Youth Athletics Championships. However, shortly afterward, she suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury, which ended her three-year athletic career. She was therefore ineligible to be chosen for the Beijing, China, Summer Olympics in 2008.
After recovering from her injury, Philip competed exclusively in athletics. She was a member of the Great Britain team that took home gold in the 4 x 100-meter relay at the 2014 European Championships and silver in the 4×200-meter relay at the 2014 IAAF World Relays. She competed for England and finished fourth in the 100-meter final at the 2014 Commonwealth Games while winning a bronze medal in the 4×100-meter relay.
