Paul Kibii Tergat, popularly known as Paul Tergat, is a Kenyan former professional long distance runner.  In 2003, he became the first Kenyan man to set the marathon world record. Tergat is one of the legends in the long-distance running world. However, it was during the cross-country competitions in which his reputation truly began. From Durham in 1995 to Belfast in 1999, he won five straight cross-country championships. Cross country running even set the way for his road and track accomplishments, which included many world records, two world half marathon titles, two Olympic 10,000m silver medals, and three World Championships 10,000m medals, i.e., two silvers and a bronze.

Tergat was appointed a UN World Food Program (WFP) Ambassador Against Hunger in January 2004. Paul Tergat’s family could not afford to send him to school with meals when he was a child. Tergat asserts that if it weren’t for the World Food Program, which supplied lunch at his school, he wouldn’t have received a complete education. In 2005, Tergat established the Paul Tergat Foundation. It is intended to support underprivileged Kenyan athletes. He is the owner of Fine Touch Communications, a sports marketing and public relations firm. In collaboration with Safaricom, Kenya’s biggest mobile telephony provider, the company sponsors the annual Sportsman of the Year Awards.

In the upcoming months, he might also introduce a clothing line under the brand, Tergat. Tergat, like many other Kenyan athletes, is a member of the Armed Forces and is stationed at the Moi Air Base in Nairobi. Tergat was linked with the task of establishing a new temporary committee to supervise Athletics Kenya (AK) in April 2015, following reports that the Sports Cabinet Secretary, Hassan Wario, would shortly dissolve AK. Additionally, he has been selected to serve as the brand representative at the upcoming World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia. He will therefore be present on the competition day, which is set for February 18, 2023.
