Faith Kipyegon is a Kenyan 1500m middle-distance runner specialist. She is just the second woman to ever win back-to-back Olympic titles in the 1500 m, and the first woman to ever win four global titles in the event. She is a two-time world champion and an Olympic winner who has won the Games twice in a row. Kipyegon was the first person in history to break the 3:50 barrier and holds the world record for the distance with a time of 3:49.11, set on June 2, 2023, in Florence. She also won two silver medals. She ran the 5000 m in 14:05:20 at the Meeting de Paris, breaking the world record, just one week later. Since 2015, she has won or placed second in every significant competition, earning her the title of greatest.

Kipyegon won Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020, as well as World Championship gold in 2017 and 2022. Faith Kipyegon won international silver medals in 2015, the year she only lost to multiple world record holder Genzebe Dibaba, and in 2019, the year after she returned from maternity leave. She is one of just five athletes to have dominated at every world age-group level in their chosen track and field discipline (under-18, U20, and senior) while also breaking the senior world record. She has two of the three fastest female 1500 m times in history.

Faith Kipyegon was born on January 10, 1994. As the eighth of nine children, Faith Kipyegon was raised on a farm in Kenya’s Rift Valley. Her older sister, Beatrice Mutai, is an expert at the 10km and half marathon distances, and her father, Samuel Koech, was a 400m and 800m runner in his teens. Up until the age of 14, when she started participating in school athletics, Faith played football. She started a one-kilometer run in a physical education class and won by 20 meters. The single mother attended Keringet Winners Girls High School in Kuresoi, Nakuru County. The establishment was made possible by Dutch philanthropist Piet de Peut. The institution’s goal was to identify and nurture talent while also creating an environment that was conducive to learning. The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), which Kipyegon completed in 2015, was issued. Kipyegon has also signed to endorse several companies and sponsors, including Nike, which gives her clothing and footwear.
