Armand Gustav Duplantis is the reigning World and Olympic champion, as well as the current world record holder, with a height of 6.21 meters. He was born on November 10, 1999. Duplantis was born into a sporting background. His father, Greg Duplantis, an American with Cajun and Finnish ancestry, is a former pole vaulter with a personal best of 5.80 meters, and his Swedish mother Helena is a former heptathlete and volleyball player. His two older brothers, Andreas and Antoine and his younger sister, Johanna, were all involved in sports. Andreas competed for Sweden in the pole vault at the 2009 and 2012 World Youth and Junior Championships, and Antoine switched from pole vault to baseball in high school before enrolling at Louisiana State University, where he became the team’s career hits captain in 2019.
Duplantis claimed gold in the boys’ pole vault as a 15-year-old at the World Youth Championships in 2015. With a new under-20s world record height of 6.05 meters, he earned the gold medal at the European Championships in 2018 and the silver medal at the World Championships in 2019. In 2021, Duplantis also achieved Championship Best times by winning the Diamond League and the European Indoor Championships in 2021. He took home the gold at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021. He swept both the World Athletics Championships titles by emerging the winner in the Indoor and Outdoor championships to become the world champion in 2022. He even claimed seven titles at the Diamond League 2022 by winning in Doha, Eugene, Oslo, Stockholm, Chorzów, Lausanne, and Zürich.
