The Vredestein 20KM de Paris 2022 is slated to be held on October 9, 2022, in Paris, France. Commonly known as the 20 Kilometres de Paris, it is a road running competition over 20 kilometers that is conducted on the streets of Paris every year. Kenyan athletes hold both the men’s and women’s 20 km course records in the competition. Sarah Chepchirchir (women) established the record in 2013 with a time of 1:05:03 hours, beating Evans Cheruiyot’s (men) time of 57:19 minutes in 2005. The previous iteration of the road running race was won by Morhad Amdouni (57:54) in the men’s category and Samira Mezeghrane-Saad (1:09:08), both from France.
The competition’s course is designed in the shape of a double-looped figure eight. The race begins in the Trocadéro, next to the Eiffel Tower, and participants cross the Seine River at the Pont d’Iéna. It makes an anti-clockwise loop through Bois de Boulogne before doing a smaller clockwise loop along the banks of the Seine. The Musée du Quai Branly serves as the destination. The initial race distance was 20.3 kilometers, but it was lowered to 20 kilometers in 1981. Between 1981 to 1992, the timings of the athletes are not accepted for record purposes due to substandard management of the race at the starting site as extremely quick times were reported when several runners began the race a full minute before the official starter’s gun was fired.
