Sprinter Usain Bolt is one of the greatest athletes of all time. He is the current world record holder in 100m and 200m disciplines. Bolt’s full name is Usain St. Leo Bolt. He grew up in a small town of Sherwood Content in Jamaica with his parents, brother Sadiki and sister Sherine. The legendary athlete celebrates his 36th birthday today.
As a child, Usain loved playing Football and Cricket. When he studied at the Waldensia Primary School, he started sprinting. At the age of twelve, he became the fastest 100-meter runner at his school. His record in the track and field event prospered as a result of which his coaches recognized his athletic abilities. He competed for the first time in 2001 at the age of 14, winning the high school title and the 200-meter silver medal. For Bolt, this was just the first of many victories. He attended the 2003 World Junior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica, at the age of 15. He became the youngest junior gold medalist after winning the 200-meter race.
Under Fitz Coleman’s guidance, he switched to become a professional in 2004. He competed at the Bermuda CARIFTA Games and set a junior sprinting record by finishing the 200 metres in less than 20 seconds. Usain Bolt is the current Olympic champion with eight gold medals from the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Games. He has won the World Championship eleven times. After the 2017 World Championships, the legendary athlete took the decision to retire from competing at the professional level.
