The 42nd running of the annual London Marathon will take place on October 2, 2022. The 2022 London Marathon was rescheduled from April to October in August 2021 to maximize the possibilities that such a huge event could be performed safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The London Marathon 2020 held at the St. James’s Park in October 2020 witnessed the participation of elites only. The London Marathon 2021 took place in October as well, with 40,000 runners competing in person and an additional 40,000 virtually. The current elite course records are held by Eliud Kipchoge (2:02:37 in 2019) and Paula Radcliffe (2:15:25 in 2003). Marcel Hug (1:26:27 in 2021) and Manuela Schär currently hold the wheelchair course records (1:39:52 in 2021).
The race consists of several different events, including a mass race open to the general public, professional long-distance races for men and women, elite wheelchair races for men and women, and a three-mile mini marathon for athletes under the age of 17. The mass race is the third-biggest running event and the country’s largest marathon (after the Great North Run and Great Manchester Run). The marathon has a large charitable component, with runners contributing to raise more than $1 billion since its inception, including £66.4 million at the 2019 London Marathon, which was the greatest amount for a single-day fund-raising event.
The LIVE Streaming of the TCS London Marathon 2022 will be broadcast on BBC TV. The coverage will be available across the world. Since the marathon’s start in 1981, the BBC has carried live coverage of the London Marathon. The platform has been covering the entire race since 1984. The TCS London Marathon 2022 timings haven’t been confirmed yet. However, the Elite Marathon and Wheelchair competitions are expected to take place on October 2 at around 8:30 am. While the mass participation might start at around 9:30 am. The TCS Mini London Marathon Championships is also making a comeback in 2022 with the program scheduled to be held at 9:00 am. This marathon will be of 2.6 km.
